Wapack Trail Race

The Wapack race course is 18.0 miles. The route is an out-and-back that follows the Wapack Trail between New Ipswich, NH and Ashburnham, MA. There are four major mountains in between: Barrett, New Ipswich, Pratt, and Watatic, from north to south. Total climb and total descent are each about 3,000 feet. On a clear day, you can see for miles, including stunning views of Mt. Monadnock to the northwest, if you have the presence of mind. This is a very tough trail race. Don’t attempt it unless you are in excellent shape. The Wapack is generally well marked by yellow triangles that you will need to follow using your own powers of observation; if you don't watch out, you can get lost at a few spots.
Registration and Prizes
You can either apply on-line, using SignMeUp, by clicking the SignMeUp logo on the upper right of this page, or you can mail in the registration form from this website (get it from the menu to the left). Registration is $15 through Aug. 25th (mail must be postmarked prior to this date) and $20 after that (including race day). You can register on race day, but please do so before 8:45 am. Please note that all registrations are non-transferable and non-refundable.
There will be prizes for overall winners and 10-year age group winners (M/F) and perhaps others as well.
Aid and Refreshments
There will be a water and Gatorade only stop on the dirt road near Binney Pond (5.4 miles from start/finish and 3.6 miles from the turnaround). Note that on the way back to the finish line from Binney Pond there are no road or trail crossings and the course is very difficult. You are strongly encouraged to carry your own water/gels/etc. There will be water, Gatorade, and some snacks at the turnaround point (at Rte. 119 in Ashburnham, MA), as well as basic medical supplies (bandaids, Vaseline, tape, etc.). There will be food (pizza plus) and refreshments at the finish line.
